Tokyo-based Metaplanet has increased its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings with a strategic acquisition of 330 BTC, valued at approximately $28.2 million.
This latest purchase propels the Japanese company closer to possessing a substantial 5,000 BTC, further solidifying its position as a prominent player in the Bitcoin investment landscape.
Metaplanet Continues Buying Spree
According to an announcement by Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich on X, the company executed the acquisition at an average price of $85,605 per Bitcoin.
As of April 21, 2025, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings amount to 4,855 BTC, acquired for approximately $414.5 million at an average price of $85,386 per Bitcoin. This accumulation strategy has yielded impressive results, with Metaplanet reporting a Bitcoin yield of 119.3% year-to-date (YTD) in 2025.
“Metaplanet has acquired 330 BTC for ~$28.2 million at ~$85,605 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 119.3% YTD 2025. As of 4/21/2025, we hold 4855 $BTC acquired for ~$414.5 million at ~$85,386 per bitcoin,” Gerovich stated on X.
This purchase comes after an earlier buy of 696 BTC in April, adding to good results from the start of the year. Metaplanet began buying Bitcoin a year ago, changing its main business to focus on Bitcoin first. Since then, the company has primarily focused on Bitcoin, funding its purchases through stock sales and bonds.
Metaplanet’s regular Bitcoin purchases put it among more companies that view Bitcoin as a key asset. The company is copying MicroStrategy’s plan, a leader in companies using Bitcoin, by using a dollar-cost averaging method.
While Metaplanet currently owns less Bitcoin than MicroStrategy, both are in the Bitwise OWNB, a fund that tracks companies holding at least 1,000 BTC. MicroStrategy recently spent $285 million to buy 3,459 BTC, setting a high bar for the industry.
To stay competitive, Metaplanet has added Eric Trump to its board of advisors. Also, reports suggest that Metaplanet plans a $10 million purchase, aiming to boost Bitcoin’s price in the coming weeks.
Continued Bitcoin Acquisitions
According to a CoinTab news report, the company bought 319 BTC, worth about $26.7 million, on April 14th. This purchase increases their total BTC to around 4,525 bitcoins, worth over $380 million. The company bought its Bitcoin at an average price of $89,000 per BTC, totaling $26.7 million.
This significant purchase happened shortly after the investment company bought BTC worth $68 million. This move demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its crypto assets and solidifies its position as a key player in crypto investing.
After the latest purchase, the company’s stock rose 3.71% to 363 yen. Also, the company’s BTC plan has worked well, with a BTC Yield of 41.7% so far this year.
